Briefly, I was forced to leave the warmth and comfort of my home this afternoon, and I could not wait to get back!
I need a wife! ... Okay, I have a wife. But since she is in Canada right now, sending her out for groceries is a comforting and romantic notion but a practical impossibility.
I am enjoying a really wonderful hibernation this winter, especially on dreary days like this. I allow a slower pace, I make comfort food, I let my couch hug me while I read or watch movies, and I light my candles and listen to soothing music.
This afternoon I am listening to my favorite holiday CD by Shawn Colvin and I have a cinnamon stick candle burning nearby. For lunch, Jonathan and I had soup and a sandwich.
It was wonderful! The soup was bacon and bean soup, to which I added pieces of bacon. YUM! The sandwich was turkey and bacon. To drink: sweet tea. Jonathan had pomegranate/cranberry juice.
I don't even mind the dreary weather, now that I am comfy and cozy inside!

| What The Holidays Mean to You |
For you, the holidays are a very spiritual time. You have as much holiday fun as everyone else - but you never forget what you're celebrating. You celebrate the holidays in a minimalist style. You are likely to only give one great present and decorate your house with a few special items. During the holidays, you feel happily busy. There's so much do to and not a lot of time to do it. But you enjoy every minute of your holiday chores. You think the holidays should be comforting and relaxing. You don't like the holiday rush... you just like the simple pleasure of the holidays. Your best holiday memories are of childhood foods and traditions. You secretly still wish you believed in Santa Claus. |
That last paragraph almost made me cry! So true!!
Friday Five: Birthday Celebrations
I actually get to play on the right day this time! :)
Here are the questions, posted by Mother Laura at RevGalBlogPals...
1. When is your birthday? Does anyone else (famous and/or in your own life) share it?
My birthday is June 16th. I think there are famous people with my birth date but I can't remember who they are.
2. Do you prefer a big party or an intimate celebration for the chosen few?
I prefer a small celebration. I like going out to dinner with friends and family.
3. Describe your most memorable birthday(s)--good, bad, or both.
Well, I've had several that were memorable, both good and bad, but a couple I'd like to share were both from childhood: one with a Happy Days theme and great music, and another when we all went to see the movie "Grease".
4. What is your favorite cake and ice cream? (Bonus points if you share the cake recipe). Or would you rather have a different treat altogether?
I love the basic white birthday cake with icing, but if possible, would also want to have apple pie a la mode with whipped cream, since that is really my fave dessert.
5. Surprise parties: love 'em or hate 'em?
I've never had one. I think I would like it because it would be such a demonstration of love. I'd cry, I know I would!
Bonus: Describe your ideal birthday--the sky's the limit...
Because putting all one's expectations for happiness onto one day is just a set-up for disappointment, I like the idea of a birthday *week*.
I'd love to plan one special thing for each day of my birthday week. That way, I'd be bound to enjoy it one way or the other!
And if the sky were the limit, it would take place at a spa resort with cabins/cottages and a lake and my wife and friends would all be there. For presents, I'd get new clothes and new jewelry, and every day, I'd get to eat my favorite foods. There would be movies and dancing and karaoke and massages and walks by the lake.
Wow! Sounds fun, doesn't it? I should try to plan something like that one year.

It Ain't Necessarily So!
It's just beginning to get chilly out here on my balcony. The sun has started to descend beneath the line where the balcony window is and even if I sit up as straight as I can, all I can see is red-orange color, fading, behind the trees.
My wife and son have just returned from a long walk together, which included a trip to the store, and she has just set off again because one of the things she came back with was not what I had in mind and it is something I need before tomorrow. I hear car doors closing and apartment doors opening as people return from work.
It has been a great day!
We celebrated our two-month anniversary with a fantastic pancake, scrambled eggs and bacon brunch and we toasted each other with mimosas! We also danced to that Nickleback song about being far away for far too long and an old fave by the Cranberries which has really delicious harmonies.
Last night, we went to see "For the Bible Tells Me So", which was followed by a great panel discussion. The pastor from the UMC church I'm a member of was one of the panel members in addition to the film's creator and two of the parents from the film. It was a great experience to sit next to my beloved and hold hands while watching it. About half of our church was there, too, and it felt good to see them there.
Though she has been there before, a lot of my friends at church hadn't met my wife yet, and it was so wonderful to be there yesterday and get to introduce her to everyone!
We've been honeymooning a bit, which is why I haven't posted here as often.
Anyway, one of the themes of the film, and the reason for the title of my post, is that just because you've been told what the Bible says about something (like homosexuality), it ain't necessarily so!
It ain't necessarily so
It ain't necessarily so
The t'ings dat yo' li'ble
To read in de Bible,
It ain't necessarily so.

Trusting My Intuition
I just had such an amazing experience!
I'm working with clients today. I've been on vacation and my wife will be here tonight, so I'll be back on vacation for another week, but figured I'd work from home in my healing practice while waiting on her to get here.
So I'm working with my 5th client this afternoon, and I get, intuitively, that in addition to just working on the healing exercise he would be using that he also needed to find a specific memory to focus on as he heals. He asked for all the intuitive info I could give him to help him with uncovering the memory...
What's fascinating is that I got a general piece of info about the area we needed to work in, but when we tried to get specific to narrow it down, it wasn't either of the choices. And I have to admit that right at that moment, I felt a little scared!
Though I do trust my intuition generally, I admit I may have a fondness for control, and I don't like that feeling of not knowing what to do next!
Finally, though, it occurred to me to explore connections to the general area we'd been wandering around in. And there it was!
Two amazing things happened...
I got chills when he got close to the memory because my body knew we had hit pay dirt.
And then, once we really landed on it, one of his physical symptoms spontaneously cleared up while we were on the phone!
Have I mentioned how much I love the work I do? I am so grateful that I get to walk alongside these wonderful people and help facilitate their healing!

Welcome to 2008!!
Fast away the old year passes
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses
Sing we joyous all together
Heedless of the wind and weather.
I've been thinking a lot about the mysteries of time this morning. Well, ever since last night, actually!
During last night's countdown, I was on the phone with my wife, which was a wonderful moment. But she was two hours away, so her own "countdown" wouldn't come until later. And it dawned on me that at that moment, I was living in 2008 while she was living in 2007. A love across time, if you will! :)
We were both struck by that thought, that we were living in two different times. Which brings me to this morning's pondering about how God sees time.
I went looking for New Year's blessings and found this...
We are creatures in time and space, and it helps us both practically and psychologically to be able to speak of "this century, this year, this month, this millennium."
But God's time is quite another matter. We don't know about God's time. There's at least a fair chance that it runs in two directions, not just one, forward and back like a bead on a string. Who knows if it's in more than two dimensions? Maybe God's time stands still sometimes. Maybe it dances, bending, contracting, expanding, playing among the galaxies, putting the space-time continuum in a twist. Maybe time is so totally irrelevant to God that we can forget time ever existed. (I doubt that, somehow: time is too neat and fascinating for that.) I am quite certain that Isaac Watts had it wrong when he wrote "A thousand ages in Thy sight/ Are like an evening gone." That's much too simple. I think God's time is going to be far more complicated and mysterious than a simple 1000 age/1 evening ratio. I expect it to be in colours that we humans haven't even thought of yet. ~~Molly Wolf
I love the idea of God's time dancing and bending!
Makes me think of jazz hands and Broadway and "let's put on a show!" Getting ready backstage, waiting for the curtain to rise, so excited you can hardly stand it. And then, once the show begins, the magic that unfolds is dazzling, so bright it lifts you into a whole other dimension.
That's my wish for this next year: moments of magic, razzle-dazzle excitement, and jazz-hand empowerment, sandwiched in between moments of deep watching-the-river-flow contentment!
