The trees talk to me!
Well, maybe they do, maybe they don't. But when I take my walks under the trees, not only do I often walk away feeling embraced and loved, I often seem to "hear" encouraging messages.
Today, what seemed to come to me was...
"You are on the right path, headed in the right direction! Everything is unfolding exactly as it should. Even the longings you have, to grow and shift and reach for something more, are part of the unfolding. Trust that it will continue to unfold."
Just what I needed. Especially, these past few days. I've been so cranky! I haven't been feeling well and it has made me quite irritable.
I just want to flop down on the bed and lie there undisturbed for a day or two.
But it's good to know things are still percolating even with my crankiness!

Comfort Food and a Bonfire
Yep! One of the main reasons I am writing tonight is to express the pleasure I had during tonight's dinner!
Bean soup with bacon and grilled cheese sandwiches, followed by a dessert of Girl Scout Cookies. Yummy!!
The day went well, church and Sunday school were good, and Jonathan and I watched a movie this afternoon when we got back home. But last night was better!
I actually got out of the house for a change!
One of the women from our Bible study/Sunday school invited us all to come to her house for dinner and a backyard bonfire. Dinner was wonderful (lasagna, sweet potato souffle and my apple pie for dessert) and the company was great. After dinner, we spent a couple of hours outside around the fire singing songs.
I actually sang a couple all by myself!
I had a wonderful time! Her house is very warm and welcoming--I can just imagine housesitting there and spending hours in her sunroom, or watching a movie in her living room. One of the other women there and I tried to invite ourselves back to watch a movie in the living room with a fire blazing in the fireplace, but we were told that the fire would be too expensive.
Oh, well! We tried :).

Friday Five: the Water and the Word

When and where were you baptized? Do you remember it? Know any interesting tidbits?
Apparently, my baptism was not of interest. My mother has told me it was in a church in the city where I was born, but the most interesting thing about it was that my godmother, Rita, was there. I liked her!
What's the most unexpected thing you've ever witnessed at a baptism?
I am a member of a very gay-friendly church, but I wasn't aware that the minister performed baptisms with gay parents until I saw one. Suddenly, I noticed there were two dads and a baby up there!!
I was very moved as I have been each time it has happened since.
Does your congregation have any special traditions surrounding baptisms?
Not really.
Are you a godparent or baptismal sponsor? Have a story to tell?
Nope.
Do you have a favorite baptismal song or hymn?
"(Your name), (Your name), God claims you, God helps you, protects you and loves you, too!"
Then, there are 3-4 verses that go with it. It's so soothing and sweet, a lullaby welcome!

Happy Homemade Valentine's Day!
Happy Valentine's Day!
I've had a great day, so far! I just had a nice long bath complete with romance novel (of course it was written for Christmas, but that just added a merry touch to my Love Day celebration). This is my last work day of the week, so I have had clients this afternoon, but I've managed to celebrate in between.
I think I've had the most fun today when I was spreading the love around. This morning, both my son and I prepared homemade Valentine's Day cards and gifts for each other, and our homeschooling had a Valentine's Day theme. Then, later, I made smileboxes for my friends and had a great time sending those off by email.
This afternoon, my son and I used reiki to send love to family and friends. That felt good, too!
And I think in a little while, we'll take a little walk and soak up the love we feel with our trees. Jonathan has begun to see aura colors when we do reiki and there's one tree we love where he has begun to see an aura color, too, as we walk by.
Wonder which color he'll see today?

Tonight's Bible Study
After a wonderful Wed. night supper, where I had the best spaghetti I have ever tasted, my pastor began a Lenten Bible study. He said he'd had trouble deciding what to do the Bible study on and had decided to use the Lectionary as a guide.
So we took a look at Genesis, the creation stories.
It was revealing in a lot of ways. Apparently, God intended for all of us, humans and animals, to be vegetarians.
But I think what I found disillusioning was a couple of things. Taking a look at which story was written when and under what circumstances, and considering what might have motivated the different tone/slant/emphasis of each was one. The other was finding out that the "us" in "let us make man in our own image" is thought to refer to a divine court that included angels.
I have always thought (and been told) that it was plural because of the Godhead.
Sigh. It just seems more and more like the Bible is a finely-crafted piece of literature and I just don't know what I believe.
I know there's a God because God and I have a relationship. I know Jesus existed. Seems like the apostles did, too. But I'm not sure about anything else I've been told, I don't think.

Playing Hooky
I am having a wonderful day!
I almost never miss church or even Sunday school, but just wasn't feeling so good and felt like I should give it a miss. I slept in and got up for a great scrambled-eggs-and-toast breakfast, watched a skating program on TV, and found out that one of my favorite movies (the Kid),, which I can never find at Blockbusters, is coming on this afternoon!! :)
And there are several other family movies my son and I can watch!
I haven't had a family movie afternoon on a lazy Sunday in so long, I didn't realize I missed it.
Tonight, on the Brokeback Mountain forum where I've been hanging out again since Heath's death, we're having an online memorial service. It was my idea to have it--I needed some kind of ceremony--and I'm so glad others wanted to do it, too!
But I'm also glad I'll have had a happy afternoon beforehand.
